And another year leapt in swifty like a celebrity, tagging along lots of hopes, aspirations, desires, tranquility, jubilations etc with it. Along with it came a new beginning for us when we shifted homes. No. we didn’t bought a home, (I wish we could have), we just shifted into another locality. With the new home came new ideas for decorating my home. I have an extra iota of ideas for keeping my home different yet true to my nature.
I always have a strong bent towards classic upholstery including rugs, cushions, table covers, runners, decorative items, frames and lampshades. Each and every item mentioned here holds utmost importance in their own existence for my idea of a cosy home. My idea of putting up my home is incomplete without these. Apart from these, newest additions into my new home are lots of photos and plants. Both the ‘P’s are major contributors in making this house my home.
During putting up the things in order in my initial days in this house, there was one wall that was staring me right into my face, forcing me to make it into a photo wall. I personally believe that a home should always portrays the essence of a family’s love and compassion. And thus I got my excuse of turning it into a wall which will contain our true emotions, memories and good times in the form of pictures. Finally in this manner I got my photo wall.
Next in line were my plants. Since the time I was a child, I have seen my home full of trees and plants. Everyone in my family had a strong bend towards greenery and the advantages of organic living. With the help of my blog and my short exposure with Nurturing Green, I came more close to indoor and outdoor plants and their effectiveness to the society, surroundings and environment. I studied and wrote lots of effective posts and articles on greenery, indoor plants, oxygen emitting plants, grievances of nature, positives of organic living and most importantly, advantages of planting more trees and plants for a better sustainable living. And so with this house, I put up lots of plants, indoor as well as outdoor, for giving my house a good voluminous dosage of green.
And the effect was marvellous. The empty corners got their own solid definitions with plants. That’s the augmented effect plants have in the surroundings. Not just the decor uplifted, the color added to the various reds, greens, pinks and blues in my home. I particularly tried to place air purifying plants in coordination with palms and rubber plants to intensify the fresh oxygen floating inside. With all the articles and discussions about Delhi/NCR AQI levels on social media and otherwise, my little effort will surely add to the overall results. I have strategically placed money plant in one of the three balconies so that it grew throughout its length. Yes, the effort and hard work is too much and arranging and maintaining the living beings but as many says its therapeutic.
One balcony was specifically kept for flowering plants. It majorly had seasonal plants, which can be changed according to the various seasons. During winters we all need sunshine and colors to ward off the gloomy cold and what option other than plants for that. My decision of placing lots of plants has given me a positive boost up to my personal and homely energy. They in a silent and sombre manner adds the missing tinge to the complete set up with much ease and convenience. They always give me some calm and peace when I am in dire need to it in my mundane life.
